About ProFontFinder
Building a cleaner, faster, and truly open way to discover, analyze, and implement typography on the web.
Why We Built ProFontFinder
For years, identifying a font from an image meant dealing with frustrating roadblocks: mandatory account registrations, intrusive video popups, subscription paywalls, and recommendations for expensive commercial fonts costing hundreds of dollars per style.
We believed designers and developers deserved something fundamentally better: an instant, in-browser optical matcher that identifies typography in milliseconds, matches authentic open-source alternatives, and gives you copy-ready CSS code without tracking you or asking for a credit card.
100% Free & Unlimited
No daily scan limits, no premium tiers, no email gates, and zero hidden charges. You can analyze as many screenshots and graphics as you need.
Zero Image Retention
Your images are processed locally within your browser tab using HTML5 Canvas. Your files are never stored or logged on any external server.
Verified Open-Source Fonts
Every match is cross-referenced against authentic Google Fonts licensed under the SIL Open Font License, free for personal and commercial projects.
Production-Ready Blueprints
Copy tested CSS @import and font-family rules directly into your codebase, with real-time weight sliders.
How the Technology Works
ProFontFinder combines optical character recognition (OCR) with client-side geometric feature extraction. When an image is loaded:
- Text Line & Glyph Segmentation: The engine isolates text regions and separates individual characters.
- Geometric Feature Vector Extraction: It analyzes stroke weight, x-height to cap-height ratio, aspect ratios, aperture curves, and serif geometry.
- Pre-Calculated Mathematical Cosine Comparison: Character traits are compared against over 1,900 verified font signatures in client memory, returning ranked matches in under 150ms.
